Skill Builder: Pistol for Women (8 Hours)

Overview

This class will give students various drills they can continue to use to build their gun handling, speed and accuracy. The class will cover a variety of topics ranging from fundamentals to more advanced level skills. Students will walk away from this class having spent a full day of deliberate and efficient practice.

Experience Requirements

This is an intermediate level class. The student needs to know and be able to demonstrate safe gun handling, weapon system familiarity, foundational marksmanship skills, and working from a holster. At a minimum, student must be a graduate of Handgun 103.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from handgun training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Discuss firearms safety
• Identify and summarize handgun selection considerations
• Discuss support equipment considerations and placement
• Review of fundamentals of shooting (proper grip, sight alignment, trigger control and follow through)
• Improve and refine presentation and recovery from the holster
• Enhance shooters reloading techniques
• Implement proper multiple shot techniques
• Effectively transition between multiple targets
• Learn, implement and utilize different sight pictures
• Discuss various movement as it relates to moving, then shooting
• Execute and enhance single hand techniques

Equipment List

• Pistol or revolver in one of the following calibers: .380, 9MM, .357SIG, or .45ACP (semi-auto center fire pistols only - revolvers or .22 caliber pistols are not allowed)
• 3 magazines or 4 speedloaders/moon clips/speed strips minimum
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. Exceptions can be made for Agency or Department issued equipment. Questions? Please call us at 603.610.3400. 
• Magazine/ammunition pouches
• Sturdy belt at least 1.5" wide
• Concealment jacket or vest (optional)
• Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
• Casual, comfortable civilian clothing suitable for training in any weather (unless training in duty uniform)
• Hydration system
• Sunscreen and bugspray
• Hat with a brim
• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Earmuffs and earplugs

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH, New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Centennial, CO locations.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 500 rounds pistol
• For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required - call for clarification
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping, New Smyrna Beach, and Centennial facilities only
