Shotgun Instructor (40 Hours)

Overview

This is a five-day course designed for either a new, or current Firearms Instructor. Civilian, Law Enforcement, and Military personnel are welcome to attend this course. Through the application of our principles of firearms training, you will gain the ability to teach the fundamentals of marksmanship to a broad array of student types. Prioritizing training objectives, coaching techniques, and correcting common shooter errors, are all part of what you will take from this course. Experience Requirements

Military, or Law Enforcement Officers must have documentation of successful completion of an entry level pistol skills program from a military or law enforcement agency or training facility. Civilian attendees shall have attended the SIG SAUER Shotgun 104: Advanced Defensive Shotgun and Introduction to Defensive Handgun Skills or equivalent.

*Students who successfully completed the 2-day course 'Handgun 104: Introduction to Defensive Handgun Skills' prior to February 2024 will have fulfilled the prerequisites necessary to enroll in any courses that require successful completion of either the 1-day 'Handgun 104: Advanced Handgun Skills' or the 1-day 'Introduction to Defensive Handgun Skills' course.
 

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Apply SIG SAUER Academy Principles of Firearms Training.
• Recognize Performance based mindset vs Outcome-based mindset.
• Apply safe gun handling in any environment.
• Develop effective Coaching techniques. 
• Effectively utilize team teaching concepts.
• Recognize the need for, and effectively apply shooter inoculation drills.
• Select, utilize, and properly score targets.
• Recognize and apply different sight pictures.
• Increase depth of knowledge and instructor skills through the understanding and application of current best practices.

Equipment List

• Reliable, mechanically sound shotgun equipped with a sling and ammunition side saddle (pump or semi-auto)
• Semi-auto pistol in one of the following calibers: .380, 9mm NATO, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP
• Suitable footwear
• 3 magazines, minimum
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. Exceptions can be made for Agency or Department issued equipment. Questions? Please call us at 603.610.3400. 
• Magazine pouches
• Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide
• Clothing suitable for training in any weather
• Hydration system
• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Recommend electronic hearing protection or earmuffs and earplugs

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH location

Ammo

• Estimated round count:
  • 150 rounds buckshot
  • 60 rounds rifled slugs
  • 600 rounds birdshot
  • 100 rounds handgun
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Pre purchase ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping facility only
