Rifle 104: Advanced Rifle Operator (16 Hours)

Overview

This is an advanced level rifle course for military, law enforcement, and the responsible citizen that quickly builds upon rifle fundamentals using a progression of advanced techniques. This course utilizes the crawl, walk, run teaching methodology that encompasses a series of drills focusing on quick target acquisition, ready position implementation, transitions to pistol, shooting while moving, and advanced principles of target acquisition at distances out to 50-yards. 

Experience Requirements

This is an advanced level course. Students must have graduated Rifle 103 within the last 2 years and be a graduate of Handgun 103. This course is physically demanding. Students must be realistic regarding their physical limitations as this course requires engaging targets from alternate shooting positions: standing, kneeling, sitting, and prone, and moving between shooting positions up to 50 yards apart.

Background checks are required, unless the student is a sworn law enforcement officer, corrections officer, private licensed security, or US Military personnel.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Apply safe gun handling in any environment.
• Safely perform a rifle to pistol transition.
• Refine movement techniques, including shooting on the move.
• Develop principles for engaging multiple targets with speed and accuracy.
• Use different transition techniques for engaging multiple targets.
• Assess and clear compound rifle malfunctions.
• Assess opportunities for future improvement through multiple exercises that evaluate skills, mechanics, and accuracy.

Equipment List

• Semi-automatic rifle or carbine with sling 
• 3 rifle magazines & pouches
• Handgun & 3 magazines
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. • Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide
• Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH, New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Centennial, CO locations.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 600 rounds rifle, 60 rounds pistol
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping, New Smyrna Beach, and Centennial facilities only
