Rifle 103: Rifle Operator (16 Hours)

Overview

This is the 3rd course in the rifle foundation series. Students will be guided through how to select the proper semi-automatic (M-4 Style) rifle to specifically suit their needs. They will also learn how to properly set up the rifle and chose the appropriate support equipment. Rifle manipulations and fundamentals which were learned in Rifle 102 will be refined and built upon. Students will also be introduced to new skills such as efficient bolt-lock reloads, malfunction clearances, shooting from the non-dominate side, positional shooting, movement and more. This is an engaging course which will help solidify sound fundamentals and manipulations of a rifle. Students will leave having enhanced their knowledge and skills, building the confidence required for Rifle 104.

Experience Requirements

This is an intermediate level class. Rifle 101 and Rifle 102 are required prior to attending this course. The student must be able to demonstrate safe gun handling, weapon system familiarity, and foundational marksmanship skills. 

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Choose a rifle and support equipment.
• Manipulate the rifle efficiently and effectively.
• Improve marksmanship fundamentals.
• Zero a rifle.
• Utilize ready positions.
• Efficiently and effectively reload a rifle.
• Transition the rifle bilaterally.
• Clear simple malfunctions.
• Engage targets utilizing pivots, turns, and movement techniques.
• Improve accuracy from prone, kneeling, and seated positions.
• Apply fundamentals of shooting from supported positions.

• Semi-automatic rifle or carbine with sling (calibers supported: .300 BLK, 5.56, 7.62NATO)
  • Absolutely NO pistol braces and NO sub guns.
• 3 Rifle magazines
• Magazine pouches
• Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide
• Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
• Clothing suitable for training in any weather
• Hydration system
• Shooting gloves; optional
• Knee and elbow pads; optional
• Hat with a brim; optional
• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Ear protection: earmuffs and earplugs

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH, New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Centennial, CO locations.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 1,000 rounds rifle
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping, New Smyrna Beach, and Centennial facilities only
