Overview

This three-day course is designed to enhance close-quarters instructional content and delivery for handgun operation. 

Reflexive shooting harnesses the physiological tendency for a person to be target-focused in close-quarters, tense, uncertain, and rapidly evolving encounters. Traditional sighting systems are undeniably applicable for precision accuracy. This instructional course explores where the crossover occurs in aiming techniques. Drawing on decades of research and experience in human performance and evidence-informed methods of instruction, this course will equip instructors with the knowledge of when and why reflexive shooting techniques are essential and how to deliver robust transferable skills training most effectively.

Experience Requirements

Attendees must be previously certified firearms instructors through the SIG SAUER Academy or certified through another nationally recognized instructor development program (5-day minimum).  Attendees must also have completed the SIG SAUER Academy’s Reflexive Shooting and Reflexive Shooting II classes (3-day total). Call for clarification.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum handgun skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please read the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering. 
 

Course Outline

After this course, students should be able to:

• Integrate human performance principles into curriculum design
• Apply Sig Sauer Academy principles of firearms training
• Develop effective coaching techniques
• Effectively utilize team-teaching concepts
• Design and deliver live fire training 
• Define aiming & differentiate sighted and unsighted processes.
• Detail between vision and attention, and discuss limitations
• Select, utilize, and properly score targets based on aiming objectives

Equipment List

• Pistol in one of the following calibers: .380, 9MM, .357SIG, .40S&W, or .45ACP. SIG highly recommends compact or full-size handguns (no other calibers allowed, semi-auto center fire pistols only). 
• Pistol slide with sights/optic removed (tuition includes loan of sightless firearm if required)
• 5 magazines minimum
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. • Magazine pouches
• Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide
• Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
• Casual, comfortable civilian clothing ideal for training in any weather

• Sunscreen and bug spray (seasonal- optional)

• Wraparound  eyewear, polycarbonate lenses, or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Earmuffs and earplugs
• Note-taking material
• Tuition includes a free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses, and hearing protection at the Epping, NH, location.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 1,100 rounds pistol
• For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required - call for clarification
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping and New Smyrna Beach facilities only
• Frangible is NOT required at the New Smyrna Beach, FL location
