Speed Shooting (4 Hours)

Overview

Intermediate and advanced shooters are challenged in ways that allow them to shoot to their full potential. This course focuses on breaking the “comfort zone” relative to overall speed of presentation, shot delivery, target transition, and reload, all while maintaining essential accuracy. Students explore a variety of techniques and concepts to expand their portfolio of skills and improve levels of shooting through a combination of academic and practical exercises in this course.

Experience Requirements

Students must have successfully completely Handgun 104 or equivalent. The student needs to know and be able to demonstrate safe gun handling, weapon system familiarity, foundational marksmanship skills, and working from a holster. Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Demonstrate the ability to set and surpass baseline performance using a shot timer.
• Apply techniques for maximizing grip and stance for high-speed performance.
• Analyze shot strings to evaluate performance against benchmarks.
• Develop skills necessary to smoothly transition between targets efficiently and accurately.
• Accurately engage multiple targets through a series of shots.

Equipment List

• Handgun, major caliber 9mm, 357 SIG, 40 S&W, 45 ACP
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. • Magazine Pouch

• Sturdy Belt at least 1.5” wide
• Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
• Clothing suitable for training in any weather
• Hydration system
• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Recommend electronic hearing protection or earmuffs and earplugs

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH, New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Colorado Springs, CO locations.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 250 rounds pistol
• For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required - call for clarification
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping, New Smyrna Beach, and Colorado Springs facilities only
