Overview

A wide range of firearms can be utilized in high-stakes environments, each offering unique advantages and limitations. Among them, modern shotguns are recognized for their exceptional effectiveness and versatility. To fully leverage their capabilities, a comprehensive understanding of their performance, handling, and constraints is essential.

This fast-paced, intensive one-day course is designed to elevate proficiency, refine advanced firearm handling techniques, and build the confidence required to operate a shotgun effectively under pressure. Advanced Shotgun Skills builds upon the core concepts introduced in the Shotgun 103: Intermediate Shotgun Skills course, and introduces more complex techniques, including positional shooting, bi-lateral(support-side) operation, pistol transitions, and shooting on the move.
 

Experience Requirements

This is an advanced level class. Successful completion of Shotgun 103 and Handgun 104 or equivalent is mandatory to attend this course. The student must be able to demonstrate safe gun handling, weapon system familiarity, foundational marksmanship skills, and working from a holster.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Recall how to properly load and unload a shotgun
• Recall various ready positions and articulate their purpose
• Recall movement fundamentals
• Safely perform a shotgun to pistol transition
• Apply various techniques to stabilize the shotgun while shooting on the move
• Utilize various shooting positions effectively
• Apply newly learned skills to perform a bi-lateral shoulder transition

Equipment List

• Reliable, mechanically sound shotgun equipped with a sling and ammunition side saddle (pump or semi-auto)
• Semi-auto pistol in one of the following calibers: .380, 9mm NATO, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP
• Suitable footwear
• 3 magazines, minimum
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. Exceptions can be made for Agency or Department issued equipment. Questions? Please call us at 603.610.3400. 
• Magazine pouches
• Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide
• Clothing suitable for training in any weather
• Hydration system
• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Recommend electronic hearing protection or earmuffs and earplugs

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH location.

• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
