Overview

The best competitive shooters in the world are experts in minimizing the downtime involved in a course of fire. Shooting Sooner 2 focuses on becoming more efficient and minimizing the downtime between shooting and transitioning between targets. Part 2 of this series emphasizes refining techniques and applying strategies that focus on economy of motion. Students will isolate and refine the foundational skills needed to be successful within the sport of USPSA.

Experience Requirements

Handgun 104 (or equivalent) or have a USPSA C classification or higher before enrolling in Shooting Sooner II. Completion of Shooting Sooner I is highly recommended.  The student MUST be able to demonstrate how to safely load, fire, and unload a handgun. Open to all. Background checks are required, unless the student is a sworn law enforcement officer, corrections officer, private licensed security, or US Military personnel. Experience with a shot timer preferred.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Understand and apply the principles of efficient movement in competitive shooting.
• Improve ability to quickly acquire grip and sight picture while refining transitions between targets.
• Practice isolating the subtasks of moving a pistol in target-to-target transitions. 
• Recognize, analyze, and reduce unnecessary movements to enhance efficiency during competitive shooting, focusing on shot preparation, execution, and target transitions.
• Adapt shooting techniques to different scenarios while minimizing downtime between engagements. 

Equipment List

• Handgun, major caliber 9MM, 357 SIG, 40 S&W, 45 ACP
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. • Magazine pouches

• Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide
• Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
• Clothing suitable for training in any weather

• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Recommend electronic hearing protection or earmuffs and earplugs

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH, New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Centennial, CO locations.

Ammo

• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
