Overview

Utilizing the SIG (Simple Is Good) principles of handgun training, this course takes students through the efficient and safe use of a handgun. Working from the holster, stance, grip, sight alignment, sight picture, performing reloads, clearing stoppages, and correctly manipulating a trigger to maximize accuracy are all thoroughly taught in a relaxed, hands-on environment.

Experience Requirements

We require the successful completion Handgun 101: Handgun Orientation or equivalent prior to attending this course. The student MUST know and be able to demonstrate how to safely load, fire, and unload a handgun. Open to all. Background checks are required, unless the student is a sworn law enforcement officer, corrections officer, private licensed security, or US Military personnel. Documented completion of a basic handgun safety course is required.

If you believe you meet the prerequisites to bypass Handgun 101 and enroll directly in Handgun 102, email ssainfo@sigsauer.com with your training background to request approval. Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

 

Competitive Shooting Classifications as a Prerequisite

Certain competitive shooting classifications reflect a level of skill and experience that meets or exceeds our course progression standards. Students holding qualifying classifications may bypass specific prerequisites based on the discipline and division in which they are classified.

Pistol Classes

To bypass Handgun 101, 102, or 103: 
You must be classified as B, A, M, or GM in USPSA or Steel Challenge, or Sharpshooter, Expert, Master, or Distinguished Master in IDPA.

Only the following divisions count:

• USPSA: Open, Limited, Limited 10, Production, Single Stack, Carry Optics, Limited Optics
• Steel Challenge: Production, Limited, Open, Carry Optics, Single Stack, Limited Optics
• IDPA: CDP, ESP, SSP, CCP, CO

To take any of our civilian pistol classes: You must be Master or Grand Master in USPSA or Steel Challenge, or Master or Distinguished Master in IDPA. Same divisions apply as above.

Classification Verification for Prerequisite Bypass
Students who wish to bypass a course prerequisite based on competition classification must provide proof of current classification prior to registration.

• IDPA classification card or screenshot from idpa.com
• Steel Challenge classification screenshot from scsa.org/mobile app

A member of our team will contact you to confirm that the prerequisite requirement has been removed, allowing you to proceed with enrollment in your desired course(s).

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Demonstrate the safe use and handling of a handgun.
• Choose a holster for your personal needs.
• Safely and efficiently draw from and recover to a holster. 
• Demonstrate foundational shooting techniques.
• Safely and efficiently load, reload, and unload a handgun. 
• Safely and efficiently hit a target with the dominant hand only.

Equipment List

• Do not bring any firearms or ammunition to this course. 
• Please wear long pants with pockets and belt loops, a sturdy 1.5" belt, closed toe shoes (no flip flops or sandals), and a crew neck (T-shirt) or button-up shirt (no low-cut neckline)
• Magazine pouch
• Hydration system
• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Recommend electronic hearing protection or earmuffs and earplugs
• Loading devices (optional)

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH, and New Smyrna Beach, FL locations.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 200 rounds pistol
• For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required - call for clarification
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping, New Smyrna Beach, and Centennial facilities only

Notes

Classes starting at 8:30am will run until 4:00pm.

Classes starting at 1:00pm will run until 8:30pm.
