Pistol Mounted Optics 102 (8 Hours)

Overview

Utilizing the SIG (Simple Is Good) principles of handgun training, this course takes students through the efficient and safe use of a handgun. Working from the holster, stance, grip, sight alignment, sight picture, performing reloads, clearing stoppages, and correctly manipulating a trigger to maximize accuracy are all thoroughly taught in a relaxed, hands-on environment.

Experience Requirements

We require the successful completion Handgun 101: Handgun Orientation or equivalent prior to attending this course. The student MUST know and be able to demonstrate how to safely load, fire, and unload a handgun. Open to all. Background checks are required, unless the student is a sworn law enforcement officer, corrections officer, private licensed security, or US Military personnel. Documented completion of a basic handgun safety course is required.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Demonstrate the safe use and handling of a handgun.
• Choose a holster for your personal needs.
• Safely and efficiently draw from and recover to a holster. 
• Demonstrate foundational shooting techniques.
• Safely and efficiently load, reload, and unload a handgun. 
• Safely and efficiently hit a target with the dominant hand only.

Equipment List

• Quality functional semi-automatic pistol – Full size and compact pistols only (semi-auto center fire pistols only - revolvers or .22 caliber pistols are not allowed.
  • NO micro pistols or pocket pistols to include: P238, P938, P365, M&P Shield, Glock 43, etc.
  • Full framed “Micro guns” can be used (Fuse, x macro, etc.). Firearm must have high magazine capacity, etc. However, it will always come down to Instructor discretion.
• 3 magazines
• Magazine pouch
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster (No IWB Holsters)
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. Exceptions can be made for Agency or Department issued equipment. Questions? Please call us at 603.610.3400. 
• Please wear long pants with pockets and belt loops, a sturdy 1.5" belt, closed toe shoes (no flip flops or sandals), and a crew neck (T-shirt) or button-up shirt (no low-cut neckline)
• Hydration system
• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Recommend electronic hearing protection or earmuffs and earplugs
• Loading devices (optional)

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH, New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Centennial, CO locations.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 200 rounds pistol
• For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required - call for clarification
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping, New Smyrna Beach, and Centennial facilities only

Classes starting at 8:30am will run until 5:00pm.

Classes starting at 1:00pm will run until 9:30pm.
