Pistol Instructor (40 Hours) - Armed Professionals

Overview

This is a five-day course designed for either a new, or current Firearms Instructor. Law Enforcement and Military personnel are welcome to attend this course. Come learn from the professionals who make it their priority to impart the skills, knowledge, and techniques to maximize your potential as a Pistol Instructor. Through the application of our principles of firearms training, you will gain the ability to teach the fundamentals of marksmanship to a broad array of student types. Prioritizing training objectives, coaching techniques, and correcting common shooter errors, are all part of what you will take from this course. Experience Requirements

This training course is designed for the current or prospective agency firearms instructor. You must have documentation of successful completion of an entry level pistol skills program from a law enforcement agency or training facility.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum handgun skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Apply SIG SAUER Academy Principles of Firearms Training
• Recognize Performance based mindset vs Outcome-based mindset
• Apply safe gun handling in any environment
• Develop effective Coaching techniques 
• Effectively utilize team teaching concepts
• Recognize the need for, and effectively apply shooter inoculation drills
• Select, utilize, and properly score targets
• Recognize and apply different sight pictures
• Increase depth of knowledge and instructor skills through the understanding and application of current best practices

Equipment List

• Pistol in good working order with at least 3 magazines (semi-auto center fire pistols only - revolvers or .22 caliber pistols are not allowed)
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. • Magazine pouch
• Sturdy belt at least 1.5" wide
• Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
• Casual, comfortable clothing suitable for training in any weather

• Note taking materials and highlighter

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH, New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Colorado Springs, CO locations.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 1,500 rounds pistol
• For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required - call for clarification
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping, New Smyrna Beach, and Colorado Springs facilities only
