Overview

Handgun 102 will not only build on the fundamentals from Handgun 101, but it will also introduce students to a more in-depth use of a pistol‑mounted optic, which will include selection considerations, Pros vs. Cons, and how to efficiently acquire the red dot when presenting the pistol to target. Following the SIG Simple Is Good principles, this course reinforces safe gun handling while guiding students through holster selection, drawing and recovering safely, applying consistent shooting fundamentals, loading and reloading efficiently, and accurately engaging targets, including dominant‑hand‑only shooting. The result is a stronger foundation, improved accuracy, and greater confidence in operating a handgun effectively.

This class is offered on consecutive days, from 8:30AM-12:30PM.

Experience Requirements

While successful completion of Handgun 101 is not required to enroll in Handgun 102, it is strongly recommended for new or out-of-practice shooters. Students may register for Handgun 102 without having completed Handgun 101 but must be able to meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills and safety standards required for the class. Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

Open to all. Background checks are required, unless the student is a sworn law enforcement officer, corrections officer, private licensed security, or US Military personnel.

 

Competitive Shooting Classifications as a Prerequisite

Certain competitive shooting classifications reflect a level of skill and experience that meets or exceeds our course progression standards. Students holding qualifying classifications may bypass specific prerequisites based on the discipline and division in which they are classified.

To bypass Handgun 101, 102, or 103:  You must be classified as B, A, M, or GM in USPSA or Steel Challenge, or Sharpshooter, Expert, Master, or Distinguished Master in IDPA.

Only the following divisions count:

• USPSA: Open, Limited, Limited 10, Production, Single Stack, Carry Optics, Limited Optics
• Steel Challenge: Production, Limited, Open, Carry Optics, Single Stack, Limited Optics
• IDPA: CDP, ESP, SSP, CCP, CO

To take any of our civilian pistol classes: You must be Master or Grand Master in USPSA or Steel Challenge, or Master or Distinguished Master in IDPA. Same divisions apply as above.

Classification Verification for Prerequisite Bypass

Students who wish to bypass a course prerequisite based on competition classification must provide proof of current classification prior to registration.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Demonstrate the safe use and handling of a handgun.
• Choose a holster for your personal needs.
• Safely and efficiently draw from and recover to a holster. 
• Demonstrate foundational shooting techniques.
• Safely and efficiently load, reload, and unload a handgun. 
• Safely and efficiently hit a target with the dominant hand only.

This class is offered on consecutive days, from 8:30AM-12:30PM.

Equipment List

• Quality functional semi-automatic pistol – Full size and compact pistols only (semi-auto center fire pistols only - revolvers or .22 caliber pistols are not allowed)
  • NO micro pistols or pocket pistols to include: P238, P938, P365, M&P Shield, Glock 43, etc.
  • Full framed “Micro guns” can be used (Fuse, x macro, etc.). Must have an appropriate holster (No IWB Holsters).  Firearm must have high magazine capacity, etc. However, it will always come down to Instructor discretion.
• 3 magazines
• Magazine pouch
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. Exceptions can be made for Agency or Department issued equipment. Questions? Please call us at 603.610.3400. 
• Please wear long pants with pockets and belt loops, a sturdy 1.5" belt, closed toe shoes (no flip flops or sandals), and a crew neck (T-shirt) or button-up shirt (no low-cut neckline)
• Hydration system
• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Recommend electronic hearing protection or earmuffs and earplugs
• Loading devices (optional)

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH and New Smyrna Beach, FL locations.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 200 rounds pistol
• For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required - call for clarification
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping and New Smyrna Beach facilities only
