Bullets and Vehicles (8 Hours)

Overview

Cars have never been so exciting! The SIG SAUER Academy offers one of the only live fire vehicle courses publicly available. With so much of our time spent traveling, mastering vehicle combat is essential. This course covers the dynamics of shooting from inside a vehicle, shooting through windshield glass, as well as defensive vehicle use and cover. Students learn to use a vehicle to the maximum advantage - shooting through it, under it, and around it

Experience Requirements

This is an intermediate level class. The student needs to know and be able to demonstrate safe gun handling, weapon system familiarity, and foundational marksmanship skills.

Handgun 104* or it's equivalent is required prior to taking this course.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

*Students who successfully completed the 2-day course 'Handgun 104: Introduction to Defensive Handgun Skills' prior to February 2024 will have fulfilled the prerequisites necessary to enroll in any courses that require successful completion of either the 1-day 'Handgun 104: Advanced Handgun Skills' or the 1-day 'Introduction to Defensive Handgun Skills' course.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Knowledge of ballistics on vehicles 
• Understand ballistic effects on vehicle glass 
• Explain types of window penetration tools 
• Explain the effects of bullets through vehicles 
• Describe how bullet travel down linear surfaces of the vehicle 
• Demonstrate the proper use of how to use a vehicle for cover 
• Understand engine block penetration 
• Knowledge of high power rifle rounds on vehicles 
• Demonstrate proper shooting drills through vehicle glass and panels 
• Demonstrate shooting from the vehicle 
• Understand how to use different vehicle survival tools

Equipment List

• Pistol (semi-auto center fire pistols only - revolvers or .22 caliber pistols are not allowed)
• 3 magazines or speedloaders minimum
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster (no appendix holsters)
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. Exceptions can be made for Agency or Department issued equipment. Questions? Please call us at 603.610.3400. 
• Magazine/ammunition pouches
• Sturdy belt at least 1.5" wide
• Concealment jacket or vest (optional)
• Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
• Casual, comfortable civilian clothing suitable for training in any weather
• Gloves
• Hydration system
• Sunscreen and bug spray
• Hat with a brim
• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Earmuffs and earplugs

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH, New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Centennial, CO locations.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 300 rounds pistol
• For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required - call for clarification
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping, New Smyrna Beach, and Colorado Springs facilities only
