Overview

Alter Ego Pistol aims to unlock your full potential as a pistol marksman by discovering how to become an ambidextrous shooter. In this course, students will develop versatile shooting skills, reinforce fundamentals, and become an ambidextrous marksman, suitable for both beginners and experienced shooters. By the end of this course, you will have the confidence and skills needed to effectively manipulate a pistol with both hands.

Experience Requirements

At a minimum, student must have successfully completed Handgun 104. Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

Students who successfully completed the 2-day course 'Handgun 104: Introduction to Defensive Handgun Skills' prior to February 2024 will have fulfilled the prerequisites necessary to enroll in any courses that require successful completion of either the 1-day 'Handgun 104: Advanced Handgun Skills' or the 1-day 'Introduction to Defensive Handgun Skills' course.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Practice the fundamentals of firearm handling with support hand. 
• Learn techniques to determine dominant eye and its relevance in opposite hand shooting.
• Demonstrate safe and efficient draw techniques when employing non-dominant hand.
• Develop proficiency in performing various reload techniques specific to using non-dominant hand.
• Practice effective malfunction clearances with non-dominant hand.

Equipment List

• Semi-auto pistol in one of the following calibers: .380, 9mm NATO, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. Exceptions can be made for Agency or Department issued equipment. Questions? Please call us at 603.610.3400. 
• 3 magazines minimum and magazine pouches
• Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide
• Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
• Clothing suitable for training in any weather
• Hat with a brim (Optional)
• Knee and elbow pads (Optional)
• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Earmuffs and earplugs

Tuition includes safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH location.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 200 rounds pistol
• For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping, New Smyrna Beach, and Colorado Springs facilities only
