Mastering Low Light Skills for IDPA with Gerry Tetreau

Duration 

Just in time for the IDPA Indoor Nationals, this course is designed for the IDPA or defensive pistol shooter, who desires to master low light techniques in a competitive environment.

The students will run through simulated stage scenarios multiple times to improve their techniques. Target identification will be emphasized and accuracy will be demanded to improve overall time and score.

Prerequisite 

This is an intermediate level class. The student needs to know and be able to demonstrate safe gun handling, weapon system familiarity, foundational marksmanship skills, and working from a holster.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

Course Outline 
  • Learn various techniques and determine which is best for a given scenario
  • Equipment selection and location
  • Shoot an evaluation course of fire with and without a flashlight
  • One-handed shooting skills
  • Reloading techniques in the dark
  • Double tap versus controlled pairs even more important in the dark
  • Multiple targets/multiple distances
  • Multiple stage runs with varying techniques
Required Equipment 
  • Pistol with concealed holster
  • Concealed garment
  • Hand held flashlight (gun mounted only for the defensive shooter not competing)
  • 5 magazines with 2 magazine pouches
  • Sturdy belt
  • Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
  • Hat with brim
  • Appropriate eye and ear protection

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection.

Ammo 
  • Estimated round count: 250 rounds pistol
  • For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required
  • Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping facility only
