Overview

Most firearms training tends to take place from a stationary position. Having the training and ability to move during an armed encounter is an invaluable skill that could save your life. This course will teach you when and how to move efficiently and still maintain a solid level of accuracy while doing so. Being able to move and shoot is also a necessary skill to master for most pistol competitions. This course will bring shooters looking to advance their skills for competition up to the next level.

Experience Requirements

The student must have completed the SIG SAUER Academy Handgun 104 or an acceptable equivalent from another training academy to attend. The student needs to know and be able to demonstrate safe gun handling, weapon system familiarity, foundational marksmanship skills, and working from a holster.

Students who successfully completed the 2-day course 'Handgun 104: Introduction to Defensive Handgun Skills' prior to February 2024 will have fulfilled the prerequisites necessary to enroll in any courses that require successful completion of either the 1-day 'Handgun 104: Advanced Handgun Skills' or the 1-day 'Introduction to Defensive Handgun Skills' course.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Draw the pistol while incorporating a step (forward, backwards, left, right, and obliquely)
• Pivot (left and right) to engage the target. 
• Turn around to engage a target from behind
• Move, stop, and shoot
• Shoot while moving forwards
• Shoot while moving backwards
• Shoot while moving laterally
• Move to and utilize cover and concealment

Equipment List

• Pistol in one of the following calibers: .380, 9MM, .357SIG, .40S&W, or .45ACP (no other calibers allowed) (semi-auto center fire pistols only - revolvers or .22 caliber pistols are not allowed)
• 3 magazines or 4 speedloaders/moon clips/speed strips minimum
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. Exceptions can be made for Agency or Department issued equipment. Questions? Please call us at 603.610.3400. 
• Magazine/ammunition pouches
• Sturdy belt at least 1.5" wide
• Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
• Casual, comfortable civilian clothing suitable for training in any weather (unless training in duty uniform)
• Hydration system
• Sunscreen and bug spray
• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Earmuffs and earplugs

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH and New Smyrna Beach, FL locations.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 300 rounds pistol
• For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required - call for clarification
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping and New Smyrna Beach facilities only
