Overview

This is the ideal course for the new rifle owner or those interested in learning to shoot rifles. This introductory level course provides the student with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to safely handle, load, fire, zero and clear common semi-automatic rifles. Time is spent both in the classroom and on the firing range in a comfortable learning environment. This is a holistic and comprehensive course designed to introduce students to the world of rifles. A rifle and support equipment will be provided. 

Experience Requirements

Open to all. Background checks are required, unless the student is a sworn law enforcement officer, corrections officer, private licensed security, or US Military personnel.

Competitive Shooting Classifications as a Prerequisite

Certain competitive shooting classifications reflect a level of skill and experience that meets or exceeds our course progression standards. Students holding qualifying classifications may bypass specific prerequisites based on the discipline and division in which they are classified.

Rifle Classes (PCC Only)

To bypass Rifle 101, 102, or 103: You must be classified as B, A, M, or GM in PCC division only.

To take any of our civilian rifle classes: You must be Master or Grand Master in PCC division only.
Note: Rimfire and Revolver divisions do not count toward bypassing any class.

Classification Verification for Prerequisite Bypass

Students who wish to bypass a course prerequisite based on competition classification must provide proof of current classification prior to registration.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Apply safe gun handling in any environment (regarding the AR platform specifically).
• Identify parts of a rifle and apply knowledge of nomenclature in training.
• Recall support equipment considerations to evaluate personal gear.
• Properly wear and use a rifle sling.
• Demonstrate the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship.
• Perform rifle manipulation skills such as loading, unloading, and clearing.
• Apply marksmanship fundamentals to group from the prone position.
• Demonstrate how to zero a rifle.
• Apply an understanding of height over bore (offset) to accurately hit a target.
• Disassemble, clean, and maintain a modern sporting rifle.

Equipment List

• Semi-automatic carbine (provided by SIG SAUER Academy)
  • Tuition includes FREE loan of a carbine, magazines, mag pouches, eye and hearing protection
  • NO personal firearms
• Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide
• 3 magazines (minimum)
• Magazine pouches
• Footwear suitable for standing for long periods
• Clothing suitable for training in any weather
• Shooting gloves (optional based on student comfort)
• Knee and elbow pads (optional based on student comfort)
• Wraparound eyewear with polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription
• Electronic hearing protection, earmuffs or earplugs

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH and New Smyrna Beach, FL locations.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 200 rounds rifle
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping and New Smyrna Beach facilities only
