Overview

This 5-day course focuses on developing proficiency in tactical scoped rifle marksmanship, field craft, and observation/reporting skills. The vast majority of law enforcement sniper engagements take place within 100 yards, this course emphasizes extreme close-range precision, with practical application of accuracy out to distances of 300 yards. This is a physically demanding course, requiring students to move rapidly between positions up to 300 yards. Students are expected to run in and out of positions during the duration of the course. Students must be realistic about their physical condition and gun handling skills if considering attending this course. This course contains multiple accuracy based scored events. Students must pass each event to receive a certificate of achievement. Students who complete the course, but who do not pass the shooting events will receive a certificate of attendance. 

Experience Requirements

This course is restricted to current law enforcement and current military only.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Lay technical foundation for all future LE sniper missions and courses.
• Lay shooting foundation for all future LE sniper classes and applications.
• Develop understanding of terminology and nomenclature of scopes and precision rifles.
• Develop understanding of concepts and minute-of-angle and milliradians.
• Develop basic understanding of external ballistics relative to shooting over given distance.
• Develop basic understanding of atmospheric influences on external ballistics.
• Develop understanding of scope setup and function
• Develop understanding and ability to properly adjust scope for impact shift on demand.
• Develop each shooter’s fundamentals of marksmanship.
• Develop ability to understand and apply the “shot process” to each shot.
• Develop understanding of use and purpose of Databook.
• Introduce positional shooting with scoped rifle.
• Introduce importance of carrying essential equipment for missions.
• Introduce importance of gear selection and preparation.
• Introduce basic understanding of camouflage and concealment.
• Introduce basic understanding of observing and reporting information.
• Introduce basic understanding of movement in rural environment.
• Introduce basic understanding of shooting through glass and obstacles. 
• Demonstrate cleaning and maintenance of scope and rifle.

Equipment List

• Quality, functional center fire rifle capable of obtaining and maintaining a 1 MOA group
• 3 magazines minimum (unless internal magazine)
• Sling
• Binoculars
• Small calculator
• Range finder
• Match grade ammunition suitable for issued rifle
• Footwear suitable for range use
• Operational clothing suitable for training in any weather (camouflage preferred)
• Ghillie Suit / Camouflage material (optional) 
• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
• Operational hearing protection (electronic preferred)
• Sufficient ruck/backpack for carrying essential equipment and to shoot from
• Water bladder/hydration system
• Note-taking gear
• Food that can be transported and eaten in the field (lunches)
• Snack/energy food that can be transported and eaten in the field
• Mission essential equipment (may vary by department)
• Tripod (optional)

Tuition includes free loan of holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH location.

*NOTE: Precision rifle systems are available for loan from the Epping facility (Sig Cross). If you bring ammunition for a loaner rifle, it must be factory loaded ammo in 308 or 6.5 creedmoor.

• Estimated round count: 500 rounds rifle
• For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required - call for clarification
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping and New Smyrna Beach facilities only
