Overview

But which light? How many lumens? Where does the light go on the rifle? This course is designed to introduce white lights to the modern rifle. Instructors will discuss mounted flashlights, attachment methods, and employment techniques. Students will shoot a comprehensive course in both a low light and no light scenarios. There is no need to bring a rifle flashlight to the course; rifle mounted flashlights can be borrowed.

Experience Requirements

Student must have previously attended Rifle 104 or equivalent courses. Upon arrival, students need to be able to safely load, shoot, clear malfunctions, shoot from various positions, and unload a modern sporting rifle. Students must be proficient with shooting a pistol in low light scenarios.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Describe elements of modern firearm lights such as construction, lumens, activation methods, etc.
• Define candela, lumen, and lux
• Evaluate and select a rifle mounted light
• Demonstrate a variety of handheld white light rifle techniques
• Demonstrate a variety of illumination techniques
• Perform rifle magazine reloads, pistol transitions, shoot from distance, positional shooting, target to target transitions, malfunction clearances, and barricaded shooting under low light conditions

Equipment List

• Pistol with ATTACHED white light and correct holster for pistol (not available to borrow at Academy)
• Reliable, mechanically sound semi-automatic rifle or carbine with sling
  • Absolutely NO pistol braces and NO sub guns
• Handheld or weapon mounted light (optional)
• 3 rifle magazines
• 2 pistol magazines
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
  • Holster Requirements:
    • Must completely support the pistol.
    • Must not collapse once drawn.
    • Must fit properly to the belt. 
    • When holstered, the trigger guard must be completely covered. 
    • Must be oriented in a safe direction for drawing. 
    • “Trigger Finger” style retention devices are not permitted.
    • Must be able to draw and holster one-handed; Support hand cannot be utilized.
    • Holster compliance is at the discretion of the Instructor. If a holster is deemed to not comply with safety requirements, a loaner SIG SAUER pistol and/or appropriate holster will be provided. • Estimated round count: 450 rounds rifle, 50 pistol
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
